usb plug-n-play thief

i remember back in the day when i used to experiement with these things. they were portable usb drives that you could set to copy an entire “my documents” folder or just a certain file extension inside that folder. you could set them to change someone’s desktop background wallpaper. you could even set them to steal browser-saved passwords and history logs. they didn’t have a name back then. nowadays, we call them switchblades and hacksaws.

it’s main purpose was to act as a portable data thief. it silently recovers (or steals) sensitive data from a target computer. people used them to:

  • steal password hashes
  • steal LSA secrets
  • steal ip information
  • steal dumped SAM
  • steal IE saved passwords
  • view netstat information
  • silently install VNC (with external IP send)
  • add a username to that current computer

there were good uses for these things too. if you were creative enough, you could set your stolen ipod or usb portable to automatically upload screenshots and computer information to your own private server or email. what does that mean? that means whoever stole your stuff just reported themselves to you by simply plugging in your portable device into their computer.

so how do you use one?

  1. plug your U3 drive in any computer.
  2. wait about 20-30 seconds.
  3. eject your U3 drive.
  4. go home and run the following code:
    • X:/documents/logfiles (x being the flash drive letter)
  5. open the text file with the computer name you got into.
  6. enjoy.

next time, i’ll give you some source code that you can use, so check back soon!
