so IE8 is going to fail horribly.

IE7′s updates are decent. they’re especially decent for those of you who don’t do a lot of CSS hacks and workarounds. but i’ve been listening to a podcast where the hosts were discussing with another guest speaker how IE8′s release will cause a lot of controversy and will fail horribly.

for one thing, in order to access IE8′s latest and greatest rendering engine, you need to specify a meta tag to access that version. i’m guessing it’ll be something like

meta version = "IE8"

first of all, does this not piss anyone else off? microsoft decides to add new variables in their browser engine that need to be accessed if you want to take advantage of IE8′s new rendering engine. shouldn’t it be defaulted in the first place?

second, any and all websites not using the meta version access tag will have their pages displayed using the IE7 rendering engine. now if the previous reason didn’t piss anyone off, this one should. pretty dumb.

third, why would microsoft add the feature to add the rendering engines of IE6 and other previous versions using if/else/case/switch statements? that’s pretty stupid. who would want to have their page displayed only for internet explorer version 4?

microsoft is really being stupid this time. they should at least make an effort and try to educate the developers out there and let everyone know of these huge changes. i’m seriously going to just stop referencing internet explorer and let it strangle itself to death.
