regarding LT and the san diego chargers

root for the name on the front of the jersey, not on the back. chargers over players!

consider this “what if”:

what if the chargers beat the Jets in resounding fashion. strong showing, none of the dumb fouls and mistakes and kaeding booting the football good and proper. what if then the chargers stormed into Indy and lost valiantly, i.e. an honorable showing to conclude a strong season?

would LT have been “more likely” to have said, “I want to conclude my career in navy blue, and I think we have the pieces in place for another strong run. i’ll accept a reduced role on the team and renegotiate a more appropriate salary.”

is it now simple disgust that has pushed LT into such an unreasonable and/or undesirable stance? was this miserable showing against the jets — absurd field goal misses and unforgiveable mental errors — the tipping point for LT? could it have ended differently for our star?

i’m sorry LT but…i’m a charger fan 1st. LT fan 2nd.

now regarding the team. i’m a firm believer that our chargers organization doesn’t want to win a superbowl. it’s very clear that this franchise will not do what it takes to get over the hump to win one. spanos and AJ are content to be a good team that makes the playoffs, but will never make the necessary changes to get over the hump. that’s because as long as they continue to rob us of our money and we continue to be stupid and pay for tickets, they could care less.

we will never acquire the free agents who could get us there. we will never pay the players on our own team who could get us there (IE brees, turner, neal, etc). we will never draft the talented players who could get us there, but instead opt for subpar “character guys” (IE weddle, davis, hester, etc). we will never bring in a hard-nosed coach who puts players in line because it might conflict with AJ’s ego. instead, we get norv, the walkover.

now if the rumors are true for LT leaving because of the “me me me” players, then fine. who knows, maybe LT did make some sort of effort to put them in check, but he’s only one player. he’s their peer. that job belongs to the head coach. unfortunate for us, we have norv.

/end super-smart-sounding opinion post.
