i’m on an SEO quest to the top.

websitegrader is one of the coolest SEO tools i’ve encountered in a while. i ran a quick test to check where my brand new blog ranks at such an early stage and here are the results that i got.

i got a score of 47 out of 100. not bad for a fresh new blog. i’ve been reading up articles upon articles on SEO and fortunately for me, websitegrader spots out the SEO weaknesses of your site. you also get to compare your page rankings with a competitor’s url of your choice. i choice thinkvitamin. i didn’t expect to rank anywhere near their 8,000 hits a day, but it was a good site to use as a comparison.

my analysis from websitegrader states that panicstarter’s metadata needs more work. i have a high number of keywords and some of my keywords are pretty irrelevant to my current content. so i switched that stuff around. the metadata for the page also didn’t contain the keywords “web” and “technology”. it was also stated that i have too many h1 tags on the main index, which isn’t a critical issue. it is suggested to have only a single h1 tag though. websitegrader also found a total of 20 current images on the main page all without alt tags.

another issue i need to address is the remaining contract time for my domain which is about 7 months. i had no idea that most search engines will usually view near-expiring domains as a “spam” domain. websitegrader also lists search engines that i’m not submitted on. midas well start now rather than weait for their spiders. i also have 129 indexed pages on google. not bad for being up for about a week. inbound links are pretty low, but that’s expected.

so as i said, i’ve been doing a TON of reading on SEO lately. i’ve been trying to perfect my xhtml lately in terms of validation and really want to work on my SEO. so do expect plenty of SEO blogs in the coming weeks. i’ll post up what i find interesting and hopefully i can post up some udpates on my SEO work on panicstarter soon and let you know how everything goes.
