wow. it’s been quite a while since i’ve last posted something worth reading. i keep telling myself i will blog this and i will blog that, night after night, but i never seem to get around to doing it. i guess i’ve just been busy lately. real busy.
if i’m not mistaken, i believe we last left off a week before my graduation. i’ve been meaning to post up my school experience here and my review of the art institute as well as a progression of my work, but again, i just didn’t get around to it.
i also wanted to post up my tips and pointers for new and current students, but again, i never got around to it.
but what i’d like to do for now is just give you guys a quick update on life. everything’s been good. real good actually. mended old friendships. got rid of others. keeping myself occupied with work and all of the exposure that’s been coming my way lately that i’ve worked pretty hard to avoid, but what can ya do? they wanted a magazine interview, i gave them one. besides, how often do you get to tell people you’ve been interviewed for a design magazine called layers? layers?! yup that’s right, layers!
the portfolio show and graduation went by smoothly. i only got to talk to about 15ish ppl at the show, but the good news was that i got a callback from each and every employer that i met. 4 of the employers even offered me jobs on the spot at the show. that felt quite good, especially since i decided to play the quiet-guy-in-the-corner act. funny thing is that most of the employers couldn’t really afford my salary, so i had to refuse a bunch of the jobs that were offered. i’m actually quite proud of turning down the high-paying jobs that were immoral too.
but i knew i had to find an employer somewhere that could afford me for now. i nailed every interview i went to and decided to filter down my results to a little place in solana beach called yonaturals. they hired me on the spot after the 1st interview. so from 9-3 every day, i commute to solana beach and do what i love: designing and developing.
the pay is good, especially for what i get to do at work. i’m not just a designer or not just a developer, but i also get to do wordpress blogs, ajax, ecommerce development and intermediate php development. the job is real chill and not as fast-paced as a firm, but there are still deadlines to meet. the commute wasn’t as bad as i thought either. no traffic in the morning except for around la jolla. but in a few months, the office will be moving to an office on nobel drive in la jolla, so the commute will be even better.
ok that last paragraph seemed forced and i don’t like how it turned out, but i’m too lazy to rewrite it.
as with everything else, it’s great. i’ve gotten the chance to reevaluate my friendships and rearrange the order. i finally decided to just ditch the drama in my life and stay busy. busy busy busy. i couldn’t be happier right now. for the past few weeks, i’ve been able to keep those close to my heart by my side. it’s a good feeling when you know which people you can rely on and which people you can call a friend or not. i highly recommend ditching the drama in your life. ditching the bad associations and the hatred. just forget them and move on with your life.
besides, sooner or later, people will realize what they’re missing. i really feel sorry for those people who are missing out. i work hard so i can spoil my friends and help them in any way possible. but if you want to miss out, you know where the door is.
p.s.
life makes so much sense now when you work full time. i mean, commuting to los angeles 3 times every 2 weeks is nothing, but working full time? it all makes sense: the daily naps, eating breakfast, the traffic, why people sleep early…it all makes perfect sense now.
p.s.s.
ok this blog didn’t go the way i wanted it to. but the gist of it all is to just skip the drama in your life and strip yourself of bad people that you need not deal with.
ktnxbye.
