some of you may remember back in the day when i helped code and put together a little shell for windows called aston shell. it’s simply a program that replaces your entire explorer shell with a customizable one. there are hundreds and hundreds of themes available for the thing. there are cool little pop-out sidebars where you can put your shortcuts, a desktop notepad editor, cpu monitoring, etc. there’s all sorts of plug-ins for the thing that others have written.
the other great thing about the program is that it was designed to run more efficiently and faster than explorer. that means less crashes. that means cooler running times. that means not having to start up all of that unnecessary software that explorer requires to run. that also means faking your desktop to look like a mac, like what i did.
apparently i’ve been getting a lot of hits from my recent wallpaper blogs “inspired from apple’s coldplay ad” and noticed a ton of people were searching for high-res wallpapers of the advertisement’s screenshots. well i have them here inside of this thread.
got a request from 2 friends to make a non-me version of the previous wallpaper. i’ll admit it looks a whole lot better without me standing in the middle.
i’ve found myself to be creating wallpapers more often than usual so i’ve gone ahead and taken the liberty to creating a wallpaper category.
i know it’s impossible to see in the screenshot, but there are some colorful stars around the image. wallpaper was inspired by this wonderful tutorial.
just a quick note for those who want to give the tut a try, when you get to the nebula part, setting your cloud renders to “overlay” will not work. instead, set them to screen or some other blend mode and adjust your opacity to what you want and erase anything that darkens up the image too much.
again, a big thank you to the readers who actually took the time to take photos of their desktops using my wallpapers. it’s actually pretty cool to see that there are a lot of female developers who check out the blog.
more submissions to follow when i get the time to sort these out.
i would love you forever. fire wallpaper and grass wallpaper. the fire one is super effective against grass though.
both of these were optimized for each resolution. they weren’t simply just “resized”. that’s why you’ll notice the bigger resolutions have more background content instead of just sizing up the text to scale.
