There are many websites that fail to target their required traffic, even if they’ve had some seo work done. One of the main causes for this is simply because the website isn’t search engine friendly. This is a basic essential that needs to be incorporated into the design of all websites at the outset – think of it as the foundation to establishing your search engine optimization strategy.
Let’s say you are writing a web site to sell beach homes on Vancouver Island, Canada. You look for some good keywords and come up with ‘Vancouver Island waterfront property’. So you use that term in your title, headline and here and there in the text. So far, so good. The phrase will help you with your rankings. And the use of the phrase on the first screen of your home page will let your visitors know they are in the right place.
But for writers who focus too intently on keywords and phrases, there is a danger.

it’s been brought to my attention that i haven’t been blogging as much as usual over the past couple days.
i’ve been having a lot of seo updates lately and i guess that’s a good thing. this seo update was about how i own the “photoshop tattoos” keywords in google. this seo update talks about my discovery of nearly topping amazon in world news on that volcanic eruption. well here are two more updates for you guys. i now nearly own those keywords in yahoo and in google, i’ve topped them. this reading is really paying off.
for those of you who don’t know exactly what this means, it’s good. i love finding out new keyword phrases that i rank first with every day. not as giddy as the last seo update considering i’m top-ranked on some foreign google page.
so i’ve spent the last week or so reading up on the most recent seo articles and i’ve learned a lot. a lot of people had a lot of different things to say, but the majority of them all pretty much said the same thing. there is no trade secret. there are no tricks. achieving a favorable ranking for the right search terms can mean a steady stream of targeted traffic to your site for free. it’s all about structuring your website correctly, including plenty of content that is relevant to your keywords and making sure your website is spider-friendly. here are a bunch of pointers i learned from a bunch of different articles and seo podcasts:
after posting about the volcano eruption in chile, i started noticing that i was getting a lot of hits coming in from google with the keywords “volcano erupts during thunderstorm” and “volcanic eruption in chile”. i gave it no thought since this whole volcano thing was just recent news from a couple days ago and it was simply booming around the world, but after doing some optimizing last night (fewer keywords, using keywords as anchor/link text and sprucing up my alt tags), i was curious to check my ranking.
