this one’s a good one. it’s basically a project-management app (more like time-management) which is perfect for those who want to keep track of how much time they actually spend a day on projects. what i like? projects are color-coded. everything is drag-and-drop. you can archive projects as they complete. what i don’t like? there is no way for you to manage your income per hour or per project. it’s simply just managing the hours you spend per task, per project.

i just started using it, but wait til the weeks go by. this thing have more colors than a rainbow.

one week down, nine to go

week one of school is done and over with and i couldn’t be happier with my classes. well, almost.

monday was just as i expected: night class with kris secor and dealing with nothing but php, mysql and ajax; perfect for my portfolio project.

tuesday’s professional practice class was also just as i expected: everything freelance/business/tax/contracts/accounting with bahman. this is a class i definitely appreciate and can definitely use right now. this one’s a small class too, which is good. first day’s discussion on dealing with clients and ethics/professionalism set the class off to a good start. i’m really hoping it stays that way. it’s a little weird having bahman as an instructor and not talking a smidget of javascript though.

wednesday was a really busy day. this one will definitely have me sleeping early. first off is portfolio 2 with donna. couldn’t be any more excited about this class. i definitely need to get my portfolio up and what better way is there than to have a very chill class that ends like 3 hours early? you can’t beat that. i don’t plan to leave early for this one though since i really need to use the time to get my portfolio and printbook up (more on that below).

i also don’t plan to leave early because i have a separate night class with gaston: database concepts with secor. this one is the one that gets me tired. i’m not too sure if i need this class, but i definitely don’t know all there is to databasing, so i plan to use secor as a resource in this one for any remaining database questions i may have. it’s also quite entertaining being the smartest one in that class, no offense to the students in that one. it’s just simply filled with 8th quarter students who either have no idea what databasing is or have had any php experience at all, so it’s refreshing to see a lot of people try to write php code in the wrong places. it’s especially nice for me to be able to help other students in that class considering i should’ve tooken this class a year ago and already know everything there is to know about databasing. i still have no idea what i want to do for this class though as a final project. maybe a cms for my portfolio so i can upload new portfolio pieces without having to manually edit the pages.

the print book

i’m very very excited for this one. for portfolio 2, you have the choice to submit your print book in pdf form or in printed form. i’m choosing printed because i’ve had this itch lately to get some of my work and design theory/opinion/strategy on print and would definitely like to design one for the portfolio show. it’ll probably be about 16-24 pages, hardcover and have some of my selected works, snippets of code, my thoughts on why design should be as basic as possible and still get your message across in a bold manner and my thoughts on typography. it will be a very opinionated book, but everyone has always come to me for help and inspiration so i am confident that people will take my opinions to heart.

and as always, i will be posting the design of the pages and hardcover as soon as they begin. i’m still thinking up of a title for the book. i’m thinking of something along the lines of “back to basics” or something like that. it will be a very trendy book with a designer’s flaire and minimalistic. plenty of vectors too. definitely won’t be published. just something for clients, work, students, friends, etc.

“Don’t let the simple design fool you, this is the hardest game ever. It’s still very entertaining as each level is possible to complete, just more and more tedious and time consuming as the game progresses. this is not for pathetic people that get anxiety or emotional over simple logic problems that require quick thinking, this game is for winners.”

btw, i’ve beaten the game. here’s a tip: for those spinning windmill levels, try to stay as close to the center while moving around. the farther outside you are, the more likely you will get caught by the windmill.
