after posting about the volcano eruption in chile, i started noticing that i was getting a lot of hits coming in from google with the keywords “volcano erupts during thunderstorm” and “volcanic eruption in chile”. i gave it no thought since this whole volcano thing was just recent news from a couple days ago and it was simply booming around the world, but after doing some optimizing last night (fewer keywords, using keywords as anchor/link text and sprucing up my alt tags), i was curious to check my ranking.
i go to google and use the keywords “volcano erupts thunderstorm”. those are pretty much the keywords you’d want for the news title “volcano erupts during thunderstorm in chile”, right? how can you get any better than those three keywords? low and behold and to my surprise, i found my article at the 2nd spot, directly underneath amazon. that’s the SECOND ranked spot for one of the most recent news articles out right now.
now what is amazon doing different that makes them the top rank? well for one, it’s AMAZON. secondly, they have additional pictures of around town before and after the storm. i guess all of the seo articles i’ve read saying that content is your #1 priority is true.
would i be lying if i told you i was as giddy as a little schoolgirl right now?!
