a lighter, quicker underattacker

lite

underattacker runs and functions using several things.  the heart of it all is wordpress.  i’m using the standalone version with my own server, but if you want to make your own like maureen did, you can visit them here.

within that heart are my wordpress configuration files and php files for the theme.  everything that you see here that’s dark and blue and pink comes from my theme, all controlled by my css file.

there are other configuration files which access my database containing all of my saved options, blog entries and categories/posts/links at the side.

then there are the images.  the blog isn’t very image-heavy, but it’s pretty image-heavy for a design that is 90% typography.

all of these things combined create what you see in front of you, underattacker.  one thing that’s always been on the back of my mind, besides my crappy stealthy server going down a lot lately, is that when twitter is down, it slows down the underattacker blog.  all of these things take time and bandwidth to load and the more of these things i have to load, the more time it takes to download underattacker to your screen.

so to help cure the itch of wanting to do another blog, i’ve decided to do a “lite” version of underattacker.  it’s a version designed for people who want to get straight to the content.  no twitter sidebar, no list of links, no wasting your time.  just straight to the content using text, web-safe colors and faster-loading css/php files.

this will be a good way for me to work out my designing and development for web optimization.  i’ll probably end up including the search bar and categories on the sidebar, but other than that, that’s all users will be expecting to see for a lite version of underattacker.  no latest posts.  no links.  no twitter.  as long as my users have access to the blog and to entries they wish to see is all that matters for underattacker lite.  so keep a lookout for that sometime in the next week or two.
