some of you may remember back in the day when i helped code and put together a little shell for windows called aston shell. it’s simply a program that replaces your entire explorer shell with a customizable one. there are hundreds and hundreds of themes available for the thing. there are cool little pop-out sidebars where you can put your shortcuts, a desktop notepad editor, cpu monitoring, etc. there’s all sorts of plug-ins for the thing that others have written.
the other great thing about the program is that it was designed to run more efficiently and faster than explorer. that means less crashes. that means cooler running times. that means not having to start up all of that unnecessary software that explorer requires to run. that also means faking your desktop to look like a mac, like what i did.
in my theme, i’m using a bunch of wallpapers that either i made or that my designers made. i use multiple wallpapers because i have them recirculate to a new wallpaper every 10 minutes. i’ve included a few screenshots below. the first one and the mac one was made by myself. the rest were made by designers that i work with @ coke and a designer that left us to join depthcore. there’s like 20 others in my theme that i use that were taken from either abduzeedo or depthcore, but i’ll save those for another post.
here is the theme i’m using right now. i’m also using a disk monitor plugin that i wrote as well as a dock that i wrote using the very same concepts found here, just not in javascript form. you can check out the wallpapers below. i even threw in a mac wallpaper for the apple guys.
