sorry for the late update guys. we got $100!
first off, two important emails i received from joe reguarding our school funds. it’s been confirmed that we received $100 for the month of may and still have a shot at an additional $100 (if food for the production days count. let’s hope that this is the case.)
first e-mail was from joe to the other joe in charge of school funds/budgets:
Several of my advanced WDIM students want to enter a contest in August. They’re asking if the school can cover the entry fee. The early bird entry fee is $135, and it jumps to $150 in a couple of weeks. The contest itself is the weekend of August 8th. Here is the url for the contest <http://www.48hourfilm.com/sandiego/>
John Judy reminded me that the student success committee awards $200 each month to worthy causes. As far as I know, no WDIM student has received those funds in a very very long time — but I admit that’s a loop I’ve been out of. And this is a worthy cause that involves a lot of students and should be great for morale.
I expect these students to perform really well in this contest and make the school proud. One of my goals as the incoming AD was to motivate students to participate in these types of contests — these students beat me to it.
I’m not sure how the petition process works for the funds. I have cc’d the lead producer on the project so you can tell him (or me) what steps are necessary for this team to have a shot at those funds in one of the upcoming months.
I would hope that they would be entitled to the entire $200, so they can reward their weekend of work with a couple of pizzas. But the primary goal is to cover the entry fee.
Good news. The student success committee (distributed by Jacquie Furtado) has awarded you $100 towards the entry fee for the festival. Those are the only funds available this month.
There are two options for getting the remaining $35.
1 – talk to Paul Lopez and have him apply for the May student success funds (distributed by Joe Allen) for the WDIM club. That presentation happens on Thursday at 5pm. If you miss, you have to wait another month.
2- apply for the July funds from Jacquie. There’s no guarantee that there will be funds in July.
I think 1 is the best bet.
I’m not sure what the actual WDIM department budget is for reimbursement, and I won’t know until at least June 16th when I begin my new role. But that might be a third option. I might also be able to help you with tickets for other team members. Don’t know yet.
The good news is you’re out in front of this and that gives up some options we wouldn’t have if you had waited.
Once you get Joe to approve the $35, then you can apply to Jacquie for a reimbursement of the entire $135. I believe you’ll need to spend it, then be reimbursed — as opposed to getting the funds up front.
again a big big thank you to joe godfrey for helping us in regards to the $$$ for this project.
we had our meeting on thursday and have a few more things going for us. below is a listing of tasks that people are interested in doing. if yours is blank, just send me an email to boostedboogie [at] gmail [dot] com and i will update the list.
- alberto – motion graphics, editing
- gaston – actor
- kevin – editing, director, actor
- matt – motion graphics, actor
- adam – editing, cinematography
- james – assistant director, cinematography
- bert – production manager
- connie
- mark
- dan
so the meeting was pretty straightforward. we’ll still need some actors/actresses. this is something we definitely need to prepare for, just in case.
bert also informed us that he has a cinematographer who does work for mtv who could possibly play the director role or something related to that. kevin also has a friend who does editing and other video work for music videos. these two sources are not confirmed yet, however.
we will need makeup people for production days. there are a few people we are considering asking (matt’s ex-girlfriend, my friend kaye, my friend jane, maybe more). if anyone else knows someone willing to do this on a production day, let me know.
7:30 am is the time when we will receive the genre, line and character for the 48hours. from that moment on is when the competition begins.
july 4th is right around the date that we’re aiming for the “unofficial” project. according to the latest discussion, the project will be titled “not fresh”. instead of disclosing the film plot here, i’ll just keep it private for now until kevin does his thing and works out the script, just in case there are a change of plans in characters/plot.

I thought I posted here already but sleep deprivation will do weird things to your brain. I know I sent an e-mail to you about being open to anything with production, writing and helping with any location set ups.
Again, just let me know where you’d want to fit me in and stuff.
