i’ve noticed a lot of users visiting my earlier post, osx installed on hp mini note.
that hp mininote 2133 is long gone and although i’ve purchased 2 of the newer hp mini 1000 units, i’ve never attempted to install osx on them. but what i do want to do is give a little more insight into the controversial topic of installing osx on the hp mininote 2133.
i’ve seen all of the threads about my laptop and i’ve also seen the blog articles. there’s been a lot of controversy over it all due to the fact of my lack of actual installation steps. but there’s a reason behind all of that.
you see, i’m all about pushing those that are into technology to further developing this world into a better one. pushing them to do new things, experiment more, document and publish their findings. but people out there are afraid; afraid to try things on their own. afraid to do things for themselves. so instead, they go out there on the internet and google tutorials and conform to what other people have already done.
so for something as difficult as installing osx on a piece of hardware, i was not just about to release the information so easily. in my mind, i knew i could do it. basically. osx is an operating system; a collection of programs communicating with each other to run software. with the proper hardware, osx can be installed on anything. the majority of all laptops usually have the proper hardware already.
the mininote 2133, running on the via chip, could run osx. all that was required was the modification of the kernel. doing so, i could reallocate the appropriate amounts of memory and resources to the debuggers, compilers, text editors and such to run on the mininote 2133 hardware, regardless of it’s cpu chipset. the compiler, with enough resources, can translate the patched code into binary that the mininote’s hardware can understand. please note the word “patched”. obviously, for all of this to work, it’ll require a few extra lines of instructions to run on the altered hardware, but it’s possible.
so please, stop conforming. we don’t want to be stuck at our current stage with a bunch of copycats. that’s all you get.
